Alchemy Prototype

Initial Stage

Original Description:

A prototype for a game idea I had called "Alchemy".

A simple gather and craft game that I decided to make in order to explore the validity of having a "gatherer helper" UI in games where the player has to craft many different items that use the same collectables in different configurations. This was because I have played many games where this is the case but I needed to create a separate excel spreadsheet in order to track exactly the amount I need before I am able to "bulk craft" the items I need at the time. This is a prototype to have the game track the numbers for you so a separate spreadsheet wouldn't be needed for the completionist collectors and they can carry on playing the game without having to break their immersion by alt-tabbing out to a spreadsheet.

Idea:

As the former alchemist's (now retired and living it up in the Tropics) apprentice, it is your duty to help the people of the lands by gathering special plants and mixing potions for their use. Unfortunately your Master had retired before training you up fully so you have a lot to learn as you take on the task. Also, as an alchemist (though your duty to the people is a noble one), your ultimate goal is to create the Philosopher's Stone.

Despite the complexity of the system during implementation, the game itself should be a simple gather and craft game that should have a casual "pick-up and play" feel while remaining fun for people who like gather and craft gameplay. It should have simple progression and the Inventory/Request/Craft/Gatherer UI system should be intuitive and simple to use.

Game Features:

  • Gather plants and craft into potions.

  • Receive requests to create potions and deliver them via post to complete them.
  • Simple and easy to understand Inventory, Request tracking and Crafting UI systems.
  • A simple and easy to understand "Gatherer Helper" UI system that tracks the total amount of collectables in the inventory compared to how many the player needs across multiple Requests with different Potions.
  • Simple progression of learning new potions to craft for more advanced Requests.
